Barbara Jean Horne 1936 - 2009
Thursday, August 27, 2009

Well, went to a funeral tonight for my Aunt Barbara, who was 72. All the Horne girls went and it was a nice service. When we greeted Uncle Homer, her husband, you could tell he was really hurt that our dad didn't go. From what Mom said, after the last funeral, he said he wasn't going to any more. It was his brother's wife and the funeral was in Sussex, 3 minutes away. What the hell? It was strange seeing all the pictures from her youth, all the candid shots that look like professional pictures do now. All those caught-in-the-moment snapshots that you only see in movies...there were so many of her and they all looked like movie stills.

Afterwards we went to Culver's and had a good time, the five of us. We were laughing so loud though I'm sure we annoyed some people, ha! Lots of fun about bumper stickers (love to bump hump, I'm only speeding because I have to poop, Keep honking I'm reloading my Depends, etc.) and other stuff. Good times.

This week has slithered by like usual. I like the rain. I finally bought an umbrella and the first day I used it there was lightning so I booked it back to the house before I'd even gotten to the field. And then the other day when the mist was gathering in the swamp and the clouds were covering the sky, if you lifted up your hand the light was still golden on it. It was very weird, reminded me a bit of all those pictures you see of the mountains in China...I feel like a walk now.

I've been reading like crazy. I even went to the library for the first time in forever. I've been doing a lot of different things lately. I'm trying to be different, if only a little. I'm going to the salon after Libby's done with work on Monday so she can do my hair. I'm thinking blond, light brown, and strawberry blond streaks. What the hell, shake it up, right? Then I got Becky to sign up for Al's Run with Joe's family (a charity for Children's Hospital, where Jesse got his surgery). So we're doing that October 10th. And then I convinced everyone we should go up north again and go apple picking because we've never done that before. Trying to come out of my shell a bit, let's see if it lasts at all! I just hate how awkward I am in every situation. >_>
