Man, today was balls-freezing cold!!! I'm sitting at my work and every couple minutes the wind would pick up and there'd be a whiteout in the parking lot. Cripes!
More music, music, music time!!
I've been checking a lot of "best of 2008" lists now that the year's up for some good music. I was surprised to run across an album called "Exit" by a Japanese artist named Shugo Tokumura close to the top of all the indie lists. It's pretty awesome, lots of bands on the top of the lists are in different languages. Slowly but surely, the language barrier is breaking down....so of course I jumped at the chance to download it! It's got over 30 instruments in it I guess, and it's definitely a cacophony of sounds...It's like they let the guy in the sound effects booth and just let him go nuts. I will admit every song is just oozing happiness. You can almost hear the guy smiling as he sings, it's so cute.
Then I checked out
The Music Tapes, which are a little too weird for me. The second song on their album is a guy playing a saw for a minute. The hell?
After that was some more Patrick Wolf! I really like him, he's so good at creating a vivid atmosphere with his music. His song "Bluebells" has become my favorite recently. It's so eery yet comforting, sad yet hopeful....soooooo good! There's a sound that plays constantly in the background like a firework being shot off. It gives me goosebumps whenever I listen, it's awesome.
"I'm going nowhere fast
A darker day has hold at last
Deep in this dream I let the compass keep spinning
Your love has come too late
Now wave to the garden gate
Wake me up when the bluebells are ringing" - "Bluebells",
