Finally back from the trip, and it was AWESOME!!!

We got to Jamaica with no problems or delays and the weather was beautiful. A tour bus took us to the resort, and the driver was very friendly and funny. He told us about all the construction and some fun sayings. They drive on the opposite side of the road there, and he said "Welcome to Jamaica where we drive on the wrong side of the road. We have a saying here; the left side is the right side, and the right side is suicide." He wasn't kidding. They drive like maniacs there! He was passing semis left and right, barely making it back into the right lane in time. Scary!

The weather was so nice the whole time there! It was always in the 70s and the humidity was low. I thought we were going to be sweating buckets the whole time, but it actually wasn't that bad. I was kind of surprised by the fact that if I wasn't looking at a palm tree, I wouldn't have known we were out of Wisconsin in the summertime. The hills on the island are just like the bluffs at my grandma's house, and the sky looked exactly the same.

Everyone who worked on the resort was sooooo nice. They were friendly and funny and they'd randomly come and talk to you. The only problem was on the beach where a couple locals who weren't supposed to be there would come and solicit you. Some guy talked to Gary, saying that people called him "Dr. Feelgood". Use your imagination. I also thought it was weird that they never kicked these people out. A resort employee would come and be like "what you doin' here, mon?" But they'd never make them leave. Another problem on the beach was the topless women sunbathing. Those people were the only ones who got dealt with.

The food....was soooo good! Our stay was all-inclusive, so everything we ate or drank was free. They also had 24-hour buffets with salads, soups, entrees, and desserts. And every night for dinner they had a special buffet with all kinds of seafood and whatnot, all of it delicious! It was great because they had American food AND traditional Jamaican food. I tried so many new things! We had baby octopus, scallops, and all kinds of weird fruit and desserts. Also, their special food is called "Jerk". It's some special seasoning you put on the meat, like a sweet-spicy sauce. It was so delicious! And the drinking age there is 15 so I had pina coladas the whole time. But with all the free drinks, there wasn't a single drunk person anywhere, ever. It was great!

Every night they did a show on a stage from about 8-11. The first night they did some weird traditional type play with Disney songs (???) that they lip-synced to. The next night was a couple's competition with 4 couples who had to do a bunch of embarrassing events to win a free visit to dolphin cove and a bunch of Jamaican rum. The first part was how well they knew their partner, and the men had to guess their partner's bra size. Two of the guys said weird things like 30 E, and the other two were way off. They did this one part where they had to pop a balloon by, say, jumping on the other person's lap, or running into each other. It was soooo funny! The crowd was laughing hysterically the whole time, it was so great! And then at the end They asked them who was sexier, and the sexier person had to do a "seductive" dance for the other. Of course 3 of the guys said the woman was the sexier, but the last couple, the guy did the dance! He had to do it to "Wild Thing" and he did some weird chicken dance. They were the couple that eventually won.We were laughing so hard the whole time I almost peed my pants, it was great!!

Some other things they did was a steel drum band and a reggae band, and the people who worked there pulled up random people from the crowd to dance with them. Everyone there was so much fun!

Our room was pretty neat; it overlooked the pool area and the Sandals resort next to us. Gary fell asleep while smoking and burnt a couple holes in the sheet. That was also when he fell asleep and didn't wake up when Libby and I knocked for 10 minutes, so we had to get someone who worked there to open the room for us. Argh! Gary also bought marijuana the first day we were there and was smoking it in the room. I told my mom when she asked and she just laughed (????).

The wedding was nice, but I'm not going to write about it here; check out the photobucket for that. There's tons of pics and I put descriptions for everything. :)

The only bad thing was the trip home, since it was about 4 hours late. We were supposed to get home at 8, but we got home around 1:30. OH well, it's not like we had anything to do the next day.

We also got a couple souvenirs; Libby got a big wooden turtle that the guy who was selling it carved "Jamaica 2008" into, and a crab with adjustable legs. I got the little turtle with adjustable legs and a wooden frog that has a smaller frog carved into it.

And yes, everyone there really does say "yah mon" every five seconds.
